Sponsors of Mass Save® Present $10,000 to the Ellie Fund

Funds were generated by the sale of special pink-based compact fluorescent light bulbs at retailers throughout Massachusetts.

BOSTON, Mass. (December 20, 2013) – The Sponsors of Mass Save—Cape Light Compact, National Grid, NSTAR Electric, Unitil and Western Massachusetts Electric Company—recently presented a check for $10,000 to the Ellie Fund, a Massachusetts-based non-profit organization whose mission is to support patients and their loved ones as they battle breast cancer.

This fall, the Sponsors of Mass Save partnered with Greenlite Lighting, a manufacturer of energy-efficient lighting technologies, to produce and sell special, pink-based compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) at select Massachusetts retailers. For every Greenlite pink-based CFL sold, Greenlite and the participating retailers donated 15 cents to the Ellie Fund.

The 2013 initiative succeeded raising $10,000 for the Ellie Fund through the sale of pink-based CFLs throughout the state.  In 2012, the Sponsors of Mass Save presented a check for $8,670 from the sale of 57,800 special CFLs to the Ellie Fund.

“We are pleased to partner with the Ellie Fund on this special promotion again this year, and we are honored to be able to present $10,000 to help the Ellie Fund achieve its mission,” said Briana Kane, Residential Program Coordinator at Cape Light Compact.

“The Ellie Fund is extremely grateful that Mass Save again chose to support us through this promotion,” said Jeff Popkin, Founder and Board President of the Ellie Fund. “And we are overwhelmed by the support of the Massachusetts retailers that carried ‘our’ pink CFL bulbs and the many consumers who chose to purchase them. Every donation really does count and every penny helps us offer support to patients and families who are struggling with breast cancer.”

Sponsors of Mass Save presented a check for $10,000 to the Ellie Fund on Thursday, December 19, 2013 in Waltham, MA.
